Women’s Social

On Monday the 27th of January, Staffordshire NEU held a Women’s Social at Ego restaurant in Lichfield.

Women’s Officers Jo Allen and Branch Secretary Rebecca Cann welcomed women members on a cold, dark winters evening.

January can be a long, bleak month to get through, so I was looking forward to meeting new members and enjoying a three course meal.

While the event was social, it was also an opportunity for District Officers to engage with members face-to-face.

As a result of the event, another member decided to sign up to be part of the Staffordshire delegation to the NEU Annual Conference. This is how we grow participation and representation across our Union.

It was a lovely evening and really refreshing to meet other female members of staff. It was good to talk about the profession together and find similarities and differences.

Thank you so much for treating us to a lovely meal. It made a welcome change from my usual routine to have an evening out with colleagues. It was really enjoyable to make new acquaintances from different backgrounds in education and have fresh discussions about teaching and life in general.

We hope to arrange more such social events in the future, with plans to reach out to Disabled, Black and Retired Members, along with participating at local (Staffordshire) LGBT+ Pride events.
